Xijiang 1000-Families Miao Village (西江千户苗寨), also named ‘China’s Miao stockade village of one thousand households’, is situated in 37 kilometers northeast of Leishan, Guizhou Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture. Famous as the historical cultural ancient town, Xijiang Miao Village is the largest Miao village in China with 12 natural villages, 1,200 families and 6,000 people .

The village is located by the valley and surrounded by overlapping mountains, with terraced fields rising along the slopes to the clouds and the crystal-clear Baishui River flowing through and cutting the village into two, forming a strong farming culture and the beautiful countryside scenery.
The local exotic dress, daily life and the unique architecture of their wooden houses make Xijiang Miao village become one place where researchers can explore Miao people’s history and traditional culture. Xijiang Miao people have a long history, which dates back to the Chiyou Tribe. Here, the Miao culture can be well preserved and developed. Each woman has her traditional clothing, head dress and other jeweler which is worn at special festivals throughout the year.

Miao residents living here take full advantage of such topographical features and build a unique houses on the hillside. Thousands of houses on the hillside ups and downs with the topography, very magnificent. These unique houses are mostly wood houses, or built with dark red maple wood blocks, which appear golden in the evening glow.
Xijiang Miao Village is also the homeland of Miao song, dance and abundant local festivals. The local people are good at singing and dancing. They sing songs to express their feelings and perform dances to celebrate their bumper harvests and to greet good luck. Xijiang Miao festivals are rich and colorful.
