Tongli Town (同里镇) is a town with a profound cultural background and achievement, seated on the eastern shore of Taihu Lake, 11 miles from Suzhou, covers an area of 63 square kilometers and with a population of over 33 thousand.

As there are many residential houses and bridges are dating back from the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Tongli is no wonder owns a reputation of the ‘museum of ancient architectures’. Most of the residential houses are built along the riversides, decorated with flying eaves, carved windows, porcelain furniture, figured clay bricks, dapper gardens and small stairs leading down to the water. Each bridge in Tongli has a name and will give you an idea of the poetic nature of the inhabitants, witnesses to the vicissitudes of history and remain an indispensable part of the township. With the reinforcement of publicity, many shooting crews come to Tongli frequently, and Tongli Shooting Base was established here by China Film Association due to its natural film studio renowned both home and abroad.
