Located 27 km at the northeast of Yangshuo, Xingping Town (兴坪) is actually an ancient slabstone street of 1km. Assembly halls of other provinces were built at the both sides of the street in the past. Various historic buildings of brick and tile were well protected today. The relics of ancient Xiping could be found at the southeast of the ancient street. The mysterious thing is that an stone weigh of about 20 tons was swallowed by the ancient banyan tree which was grew when the county was built. The tree is now likely to tell people a history of more than 1,730 years.
Xingping Town and Fishing Village
Xingping is well known for its ancient wells, caves, limpid waters, grotesque peaks, steep cliffs, orchards and bamboo forests. The beautiful background of RMB 20 Yuan is taken from Xingping. The town has many landmarks including Mural Hill, Snail Hill, and Lotus Crag. From Xingping, the hiking enthusiast can take the 5 hour-walk to Yangdi or ferry across the Li River and trek 1.5 hrs to the Tengjiao Temple (built in 1599) or walk to the mysterious Stone City (4 hrs). Alternatively, for the shutter bugs can hire a local boat/bamboo raft and go up or down the river to appreciate the water wonder.
Xingping Town and Fishing Village
Tralling to Xingping, you should not miss a small fishing village. The village has a history of more than 500 years. It typically represents the architectural style of North Guangxi during the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368 – 1911), the buildings in the village conform to those in the town. They have horse head walls, flying eaves, painted rafters and windows with carved patterns. The family of the former US president, Bill Clinton visited the village in 1998, they highly praised the village and were deeply attracted by the residences. In a fisherwoman’s house, you can see the clever owner how to attract tourists by putting her pics with Bill Cliton or writing some words such as “Bill Clinton once visited my house,” “Bill Clinton once took this seat” etc. The villagers in the fishing village make a living by fishing with the help of cormorants. Paying them several Yuan (RMB) in the village gate, you can taste some delicious frying fishes and shrimps.
