Yangdi Villages

Yangdi village (杨堤) locates to the north of Yangshuo, 50 km away from Guilin city and borders Xingping County in the east. A hill behind the village consisting two peaks, it looks just like 2 hoofs of a sheep hanging upside down, that’s how the name Yangdi (means 2 hoofs) comes from. Yangdi Village is home to many scenic spots including Yangdi flying waterfall. Down stream from Yangdi to Xingping, you can see endless towering pinnacles, bamboo groves and stunning landscape. The section of Li River from Yangdi to Xingping is the essence of the landscape of Li River.

There is a legend in local, a beautiful love story about Yangdi. This legend saying that Jade Emperor’s daughter once came to Yangdi Village to look for her pet, but this pretty fairy girl was deeply attracted by the melodious flute played by a young man standing in the moonlight. Then she falling love with this boy and never back to heaven. And her goat turned into part of the landscape with two of its hoofs being seen, that is what we see – the Yangdi(2 hoofs).

The eye-catching scenery, the elegant mountains, winding water, delicate beach, striking waterfall, dense green bamboos and dotted villages around here form a beautiful landscape painting. Other includes the waterfall in Shuilian (water curtain) Cave, Yangjiao (ram’s horn) Hill, Moonlight Island Holiday Resort, Carp Wall, Bride Hill and Mandarin Duck Beach. Water buffaloes patrol on the fields, duck paddle on the waters, while farmers reap paddies in the front of village houses, fishermen use cormorants to catch fish and return them, kids go to school singing songs, all these create an idyllic and beautiful scene of the life removed from the cities.

Yangdi Village is an ideal place to enjoy the misty rain of Li River. The village in the rain seems to be a wonderland, quiet, peaceful and mysterious which is totally different from the hustle and bustle city life.
